When History Was HerStory

The following was channeled from the Golden Circle of Ascended Feminine Masters, a group of illumined Beings dedicated to helping today's Woman reclaim True Feminine Power:

Our beloved daughters, many civilizations have come and gone since humans first appeared on your planet four million years ago. Most of those societies were organized and governed by women. Only in relatively modern times, with the emergence of Rome, did patriarchy become the rule rather than the rare exception.

The achievements of these ancient matriarchal civilizations have been lost with the passage of time, but the memories of respect and honor women experienced in them still live within your collective consciousness. Three of these civilizations survived into the relatively recent era of what you call prehistory. Two were especially prosperous and existed peacefully for centuries without either weapons or war.

The first was an early civilization on the Greek peninsula whose name is lost to history. They were ultimately destroyed by a people whose descendants would become the Trojans.

The second was a powerful matriarchal society that thrived in what is now Turkey. It is remembered only in legends, mostly inaccurate, as the civilization you now call the Amazons.

The third, and most recent, existed near Crete 3,500 to 4,000 years ago. They were different from the Minoans. They didn't share the Minoan sport of bull-jumping or its attendant rituals. They worshipped the Goddess and believed that the Goddess' Spirit inhabited all women, and that women could then impart that Spirit to others. Thus their religion honored Spirit in all life forms.

Patriarchy, and the war it glorifies, was becoming more prevalent on your planet by this time, but this civilization succeeded for centuries, in part because their island was difficult to invade, but mostly because their prosperity gave them much to trade and they made their neighbors economically dependent upon them.

Women governed the society, holding all positions of responsibility in government, religion, medicine, education, finances and the family. Men were seen as too immature, too competitive and too prone to aggression to be trusted with decisions affecting the well being of all. Men were, however, accorded equal, but separate, status and power in the spheres of agriculture, business and the arts.

Woman's body was deemed sacred and each woman was taught to care for and honor her body's needs. As was the custom in most matriarchal societies, women withdrew from their usual daily activities at the onset of their menses. This was seen as a sacred time when the Goddess channeled Her Spirit directly into Woman's body. Menstruating women would gather together in a sacred hall during these days to perform rituals and rejuvenate their bodies while relaxing with their sisters.

A common education-what you would call public-was provided for all. Spirituality was emphasized. The goal of their education was to increase the child's awareness of their inherent ability to commune directly with Spirit, and to increase the community's prosperity by developing the child's initiative and creativity, particularly in the area of crafts and trade.

Art was considered a spiritual pursuit. Because women were already so closely attuned to Spirit, the practice of artistic creativity was especially encouraged in men and became the realm of male craftsmen.

Male competitiveness was successfully channeled into constructive, prosperity-building endeavors instead of war and sports. The governing matriarchs recognized that competition is part of the male psyche and will never be eliminated. They also knew that men's competitive natures, if allowed to be expressed destructively, would destroy their civilization through war, thievery, the oppression of others and battles for control and power. But neither did the matriarchs want the powerful energies fueling men's competitive instincts to be dissipated through drinking, womanizing, addiction to sports or daredevil acts of bravado. Instead, they focused men's competitive urges into more constructive outlets, granting high status and recognition for business and commercial success, technological advances, artistic creativity, spirituality, the building of lavish homes and bestowing valuables upon the members of one's clan.

As time passed, these early Cretans gradually stopped funding their military. They had created mutually beneficial trading arrangements with their neighbors and believed they could control their neighbors' ambitions through trade and money. Without the expense of a military or the destruction of war, their prosperity soared. They lived for many centuries without a military at all until they were finally invaded by a poor, warring society with whom they had no trade ties. Feeling left out economically and with nothing to trade, these new people made their living by robbing the rich. The destruction of this Cretan civilization was made complete by a natural calamity that occurred in the decades following the initial invasion.

This was the last of the great matriarchal societies. After that, men came to believe that "He With The Biggest Sword Wins." Rome was the first civilization in modern times to establish an iconic belief in the ideas that "Might is Right" and conquest makes a ruler "Great." Patriarchy, along with the war and famine it creates, has dominated your planet ever since.

Our daughters, do not despair as you look at the suffering wrought by the ravages of war around you, but know that you can once again create peace and prosperity in your world. Start with the truths that unite you. Start with the knowledge that all mothers everywhere want their children to be well-nourished, happy and healthy. All mothers everywhere want their children to be safe and warm. All mothers everywhere want their children to have the educational opportunities they desire. Start from there. Work together to create that for every mother's child.

Love every mother's child as We love you.
