Sitting
in the Shadows
By Donna Henes
Everything has a shadow. Night is the shadow of day. Winter is the
shadow of summer. Sickness is the shadow of health. Old age, the
shadow of youth. And death is the shadow of life.
The shadow is not the opposite of the light. A world without shadows
would seem very flat and lifeless, indeed. (Read More)

Luck
or Karma: Does it matter what you call it?
By Caryn Colgan
I feel blessed that my home borders a wetlands area where I frequently
see herons, turtles, coyotes, ducks, muskrats and an assortment of
birds of prey. Most days I walk the path along the preserve with my
camera outfitted with a telephoto lens.
Early one afternoon I rounded a bend and noticed a hawk ... (Read More)
History

Weiser Concise Guide to Herbal Magick
You’d
be appalled at what my research unearthed that simply verified, even
on the level of plant iconography and like associations, the truism we
all know: the gods of one era become the demons of the next. The
supplanting of the Goddess-worshipping civilizations by invading
Sky-god followers was so thorough that even Her sacred plants were
debased, imbued with connotations despised by the invaders. (Read More)

Days
of the Dead
By
Dawn "Belladonna" Thomas
The festival that became the modern tradition fell in the ninth month of the Aztec calendar. This was around the beginning of August and was celebrated for the entire month. These festivities were dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. Her purpose is to keep watch over the bones of the dead. She is known as the "Lady of the Dead" since it is believed that she was born and then sacrificed as an infant. (Read More)

Medicine: Snake-and-Bird Goddess
By
Mut Danu
At age forty-five, I was finally ready to admit that I might be
heading into "middle-age." The first minutes after waking my
joints felt like rusty things left out in the rain. Suddenly the fine
print was blurry. I worried about being misunderstood or worse, my
opinions thought worthless by younger people. "Please
Goddess," I prayed, "send me an aspect of You who will cure
me of all this!" (Read More)

and Migration in Florida
By Dawn "Belladonna" Thomas
We are beginning to see cooler breezes at night but the ninety degrees
of the days does nothing to make it feel as if it is autumn. I have
noticed that the leaves on poplar trees are beginning to turn to gold.
Soon the bald cypress trees will drop their needles. They are the most
interesting evergreen tree I have ever seen. These changes can't
compare to the colors in the North and at times I miss seeing this
part of the year. (Read More)
